Come meet Fred the Snake. Fred has a great friend named Jungle Jim. Jungle Jim brings some friends to see Fred. Together they go to visit and explore Charleston, SC. Peter B. Cotton shares their adventures in his book When Fred the Snake and His Friends Explore Charleston. I love Charleston and Fred the Snake brings the sights and sounds of Charleston to life. They visit the most famous tourist sights. From the cobblestone streets to the high steeples of the churches, children will delight in life in Old Charleston. Charleston is full of history, but the author does not forget the more modern sights like the children’s museum, the wonderful aquarium, and the wonderful shopping in the various stores along the way. If you have not visited Charleston, this book will whet your appetite to visit. If you are familiar with Charleston, this book will bring back many fond memories.

When Fred the Snake and His Friends Explore Charleston by Peter B. Cotton is a delightful children’s book. Peter is a retired medical college professor and GI man. He is a prolific author of scientific papers but has done what is highly unusual. Few academic authors can transition to children’s books with success. Peter has made the transition masterfully. His book is spot-on for children. Even parents will enjoy the adventures of Fred as they read the story to their children. Young readers will love and be mesmerized by the fantastic artwork by Bonnie Lemaire. Peter’s excellent writing makes the sights and sounds of Charleston come alive. This book is a must-read and hopefully will inspire readers to visit one of America’s greatest historical treasures.
