At school, Fred, Perdy and Jack meet two Chinese kids, Connor and Ellie. Fred knows that 2025 is the year of the snake in the Chinese Zodiac calendar and asks Connor and Ellie to explain it. Twelve animals each have a year, their sequence being determined by the order in which they reach the Jade Emperor at the Heavenly gate. The book shows the exciting eventful race and the characteristics of the participating animals: rat, oz, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, goat, horse, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. They all get together with the animals from the previous Fred books to enjoy the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations including a feast and a Dragon and Lion dance.
